.. Comitatus is a thrash metal band from Nijmegen, the Netherlands. Our music is inspired by the more technical bands from the old school thrash and the early progressive death metal scene. We like to play songs that are somewhat musically challenging but also fun to listen to, resulting in a blend of technical death/thrash metal with an old school sound but also the occasional groove.

The band started out somewhere in 2007, when Remco and Kevin started writing some exciting riffs for a possible band project. It was clear from the start that they would not settle for uninspired generic riffs and song structures. On top of that, neither of them liked to play the same riff more than 4 times in a row, which led to a rather high riff density and quite some tempo changes within 1 song. Seeing how this would complicate the writing process, it took quite some time for actual songs to take shape. In 2009 it finally felt like the time had come to put theory into practice, and an initial line up was formed by Kevin (lead & rhythm guitar), Remco (lead & rhythm guitar), Jasper (bass guitar), Harm (vocals) and drummer Ivo of Writer’s Block fame.

At the end of 2009 the Manipulate demo was recorded in only 2 days, featuring the first 3 tracks the band ever recorded in the studio. Because Harm and Ivo were only available for a short period of time, a new drummer was introduced: Niels Koning. With this line-up the band is currently writing and rehearsing old and new material for local gigs and a first full-length album.
